Light of this world

Jesus said "I have come as light
into the world, that everyone who believes in Me may not remain in darkness." Yet every day our world in which we live becomes a little bit darker. Why? Is it because we have never went deeper than a surface relationship with our Lord? Does our salvation begin and end at John 3:16? Who is God and what does He want for us and from us? In John 3:19, Jesus says "And this is the judgement, that the light is come into the world, and men loved the darkness rather than the light; for their deeds were evil. For everyone who does evil hates the light, and does not come to the light, lest his deeds should be exposed. But he who practices the truth comes to the light, that his deeds may be manifested as having been wrought in God."
